What We Eat

our family's food for a week

Inspired by Riana–for those of you who haven’t been so inspired head over to Garlic Breath now–in her post illustrating her family’s weekly groceries. We’ve all seen the Time Online special: What the World Eats, but no matter how often I see the slideshow it never loses its potency. It really is a fascinating look at what people across the world eat and how much they spend on food.

So this is our typical week. You see the dozens of eggs, the leafy leafy greens and more leafy leafy greens, the potatoes, garlic, grassfed beef bones for stock, the chicken for roasting, beans, fresh raw milk, whipping cream, spelt for sprouting and milling and the lovely vegetables–asparagus here, radishes there and a handful of carrots hidden somewhere in the mix. What you don’t see–because I just couldn’t fit them in amid the piles leafy leafy greens–is the rice or quinoa, the occasional filet of fish, the water kefir, raw honey, yogurt, dairy kefir, olive oil, flaxseed oil, bag of apples and pound of butter we go through each delicious week.

And, fortunately for us, almost all of it is local. What does your week of eating look like?

Agreed, I am always shocked and amazed when I view that Time article about what we eat. I’ve never taken pictures, but maybe I might have to some day. Your picture is making me hungry, I know that!
