Hi, I’m Jenny, and I’m passionate about food. More than that, I’m passionate about heritage cooking and sustainable agriculture. And when you don’t find me hovering over a pot of long-simmered chicken bone broth in my kitchen, or packing homemade sauerkraut into a stoneware crocks, you’ll find me chasing after my children or picking berries in the Pacific Northwest.
I am also a certified nutritional therapist (NTP), and the author of two critically acclaimed cookbooks: The Nourished Kitchen and Broth and Stock. I host workshops and speak internationally on topics of food activism, sustainable agriculture, and culinary heritage.
The Mission of Nourished Kitchen
Nourished Kitchen celebrates the art and pleasure of cooking with whole foods. And Nourished Kitchen’s mission is to bring balanced, delicious whole foods back to the dinner table.
Nourished Kitchen empowers families to explore new culinary techniques like fermentation, sprouting grains, and sourdough baking while supporting their local, sustainable food systems. We do this by fostering a vibrant community of people who celebrate wholesome cooking and know that healthy cooking and delicious cooking aren’t mutually exclusive.
We believe in whole foods without the hype, in healthy diets without the dogma and in real food without the restrictions.
More than anything we believe that a balanced, joyful approach to food brings health to both body and mind.
The Nourished Kitchen Approach to Cooking
Nourished Kitchen is a vibrant and welcoming community focused on cooking whole foods from scratch, and bringing age-old culinary wisdom back to the table. Our approach to cooking focuses on sustainably produced, balanced, minimally processed and traditionally prepared whole foods.
The way a plant is grown or an animal is raised has a powerful impact on nutrition and the local and global ecology. Regenerative agriculture and planned holistic management of livestock has the potential to reverse desertification and even fight climate change. So, you’ll see a lot of emphasis not only on how to prepare wholesome foods, but where to source sustainably produced foods, too.
While nutrition is intensely bioindividual and what works for one person might not work for the next, the heart of Nourished Kitchen rests in balance. This is not the place for fad diets, or intensive restrictions; rather, at Nourished Kitchen, we celebrate the art and pleasure of eating a wide variety of wholesome foods and believe that mindful and intuitive eating will lead to healthy bodies and a healthy relationship with food. We’re not afraid of fat, or grains, or carbs, or meat.
Ingredients are the focus of each of Nourished Kitchen’s recipes, and we keep them wholesome, and minimally processed. That means cooking with fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits and herbs, whole grains and whole grain flours as well as natural sweeteners and plenty of healthy fats.
