September took us by storm, we traveled from Colorado to Virginia to visit my husband’s family and to suppor the Farm-to-consumer Legal Defense Fund at Joel Salatin’s farm. Plain rides, train rides, car rides and we’re exhausted. And as soon as we came back, planning and organizing began for our big harvest dinner.
Also, don’t forget that Go Grain-free, a class by Dr. Jill of Real Food Forager, is still open to new registrations and you can save $20 with the coupon code NOGRAINS. Check it out.
What I loved this September:

- Being around other like-minded food lovers who understand the ethics of eating meat.
- Taking a tour of the gardens at Mount Vernon.
- Reading for pleasure again.
- Running our harvest dinner.
- Buying another gallon bucket of virgin coconut oil – I use it for everything, cooking, bodycare … well just cooking and bodycare.
- Finding this recipe for homemade tater tots (my kids been on me about this).

- Taking a softer approach to using white rice instead of brown in my cooking.
- Wish I had read this when we were purchasing our new freezer for our very small living space.

- These healthy Halloween treats that’ll keep my little boy and his friends happy at our Halloween party.
- Making homemade fruit leathers with a glut of peaches and plums.
- Whipping up a new batch of my own non-toxic cleaners.
- This recipe for bread pudding – one of my all-time favorite desserts in the world.
- This list of sorghum recipes so I can use up one of my favorite sweeteners.
- Finding butternut squash at the market so I can make more butternut squash soup.
- Pickling up more and more and more cabbage for sauerkraut.
- Ordering more olives to cure.
- FINALLY finding the secret to crispy hashbrowns after years of failed attempts and mushy breakfast potatoes.
