My Favorite Things from June

June rushed into our lives with a hectic fury that has not abated for an instant.  From the many  live  webinars we’ve done for Get Cultured! to the monumental work we undertake in running our local farmers market, and real food bank, too.  We toured farm after farm this month and, in the wake of all that work, slept far too little.  So nearly too late, I thought I’d share with you my favorite things from June.

what I loved this June

  • Visiting regional farms and taking photos for the upcoming cookbook.  Just this weekend alone we visited 5 farms in two days. Oh my!
  • Enjoying a farmhouse supper with friends at Fresh & Wyld in Paonia.
  • Celebrating my 33rd birthday at the hot springs!
  • Checking out Real Food 101 – a quick and easy ebook covering the basics of traditional foods cooking.
  • These super-easy tips for making real food work on a budget.
  • Finding currants, nanking cherries and black raspberries in our CSA box.
  • Receiving pounds and pounds of zucchini and squash from our market’s farm
  • Which is why I’m going to try this zucchini boat recipe.
  • Ordering more einkorn (from these folks).  It makes the best bread ever!
  • And with all the stress of work, work, work and farmers marketing, I valued these tips on reducing stress.
  • Reminding myself of why oysters are so good for you.
  • Subsequently sharing a plate of raw oysters with mignonette and oysters Rockefeller with my family.
  • Finally getting the seeds into the ground for our garden.
  • Learning about what you can (and cannot) compost.
  • Getting the compost systems set up for the garden and for our farmers market.
  • Eating sweet cherries and wild apricots by the case.
  • Making more brine-pickled garlic scapes.
  • Slathering garlic scape pesto over no-knead sourdough bread.
  • Making sleepy tea for my 6 year old.

What were the highlights of your June?
