Soaked oatmeal porridge is a simple, nourishing, and affordable breakfast that takes practically no effort to make. It's delicious partnered with plenty of butter, chopped fresh fruit and toasted nuts for a hearty, cheap breakfast.
Dump the oats into a medium mixing bowl, and then cover with hot water. Stir in the salt and lemon juice, and then cover the bowl. Let the oats soak at room temperature for at least 6 and up to 8 hours.
The next morning
Spoon the soaked oats into a medium saucepan, and then pour in the milk. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, and simmer until the porridge is cooked through and creamy - 3 to 5 minutes.
Serving the porridge
Spoon the porridge into individual bowls, and then top with butter, fresh fruit, nuts, and cream as you like it.
