Apples & Pears Sauteed in Butter and Served with Kefir

This post is part of Real Food Wednesday’s focus on frugal real foods.   I’m taking the easy way out, though, and rather than surprise you with something new, I thought I’d highlight some classic, frugal recipes from the Nourished Kitchen recipe collection.

Tips for reducing costs:

  • Bake your own bread.   In our house the savings amount to $7.36 per loaf!
  • Make your own bone broths and stocks.   In addition to being nourishing, it saves you the expense of buying inferior stocks at the store.
  • Offer to volunteer at a farmers market or coordinate a CSA to get fresh, organic, local foods on your table regularly.

If you want to reduce your costs further, check out our budget tips.

  4. Ooooh, the fruit cooked in butter sounds soooo good, especially since I’ve been low-carbing it for a while now. I’d never thought of that for a healthy dessert idea!

And one huge way to be frugal is to eat in season. My son saw peaches the other day at the store. $2.99/pound vs. organic apples/pears for $1/pound. Or the frozen berries, canned peaches and applesauce we have stored. :o )

We love fruit sauted in Coconut Oil. Especially apples and then sprinkle with a little Cardamom
