I am so on board with the idea of exposing the truth about our food and how it is affecting all of us—including our children. While lack of exercise is surely a contributing factor to childhood obesity, it's still important to understand that feeding processed foods to any child put their health at risk.

Terrific review! I want to be able to do something to help... how can the "powers that be" perpetuate these atrocious school lunches and allow all those vending machines??? I know, its the $$$ and who cares about the children...President George Bush is quoted "they need to get out and exercise more!" Well, 1700 calories for lunch would necessitate walking for 20 miles - no kidding! Look it up!! TWENTY miles...The school lunches are just unbelievable and they showed kids squirting MAYONNAISE out of big bottles onto pizza...!!!!!!!!!!Food, Inc is also a real eye opener...

I saw this last night and I am terribly saddened by this. I recently posted about junk food and HFCS which triggered something in a media watch from the Corn Refiners of America who have since sent me a whole load of propaganda on how it is not to be blamed for the obesity in America. It's an uphill battle to get the message out and the changes made that will help people.

Great post! And thank you for sharing the trailer. It looks like Food, Inc. may be another film to watch for.. http://www.takepart.com/foodinc/Breeze, I completely agree that outdoor play has everything to do with children s' health, both physical and emotional. That said, a lifetime of bad food is just that.Check out Ren’s last post: Roasted Beet Salad.

Powerful stuff, Jenny! I agree with Breeze though, I think it has a lot to do with a lack of freedom for kids to play. Last year my sister moved her three kids from an apartment to a house on property. My 7 year old niece was starting to put on quite a bit of weight and we were all worried (silently of course). Literally within 3 weeks of living in the new house and playing outside she had visibly lost weight and slimmed down to a much healthier size within a couple of months. I'm so proud of her and so thankful she had the opportunity. We currently live on half an acre in the city but it's a big priority to move to a place where our children can play outside all the time before they are done being toddlers.Check out Julie’s last post: Counter-top Yogurt Starters vs. Yogourmet Starter.

Everywhere I look there are obese children. I mean, half the kid's class was overweight at least. It was very obvious. Now I live in the same province, in a small town(1200). I've noticed that it's very rare to see obese or even overweight children. There are some but nowhere near the percentages I used to see in the city. In my neighbourhood of about 40 homes...I know all the children...2 are obese. In the same family with obese parents. That's it.Do you think the hustle and business and lack of freedom for kids to just "play" has something to do with it?Also, this little town is very active, people walk a lot, ride the bikes, lots of outside time...there is even a little gym.I'm fascinated by the difference I'm seeing here.Good review. I'd like to see this movie.BreezeCheck out Breeze’s last post: Ask and Let Go.

I’ve noticed something.
