Up to 20% of all alfalfa is lost to the side of the road when it is hauled. They will never be able to control it - and they don't want to control it. I heard the next step will be to develop crops that will not mature unless they are sprayed with a Monsanto product. When that spreads, it's all over. I used to buy and sell quality grass horse hay into the Santa Fe area. When the alfalfa fields were infested with insects, some of my customers' horses developed sores in their mouths. When they stopped feeding the alfalfa, the sores healed. I believe this was the result of heavy pesticide use. I only bought hay from people with cows. That way as long as the meadows were dragged in the spring, the yield was excellent.

I stopped selling hay when the cost of a diesel pickup double to around $45,000. Insanity.

If anyone else is having a hard time finding the "submit comments" button at Regulations.gov, here's how I found it:

go to the home page & enter APHIS-2007-0044 in the search field. A page will open with options to narrow your search. Check the boxes that say "Notices" "Non Rulemaking" and "Open". The results will appear below, and at the far right of the results box there is a link to submit comments.
