How about a CSA for freshly ground flour for those who want to do their own baking? Choose your regular grain/grist for weekly and then a once a month specialty grain/blend? Hint, hint. :D

Zari -

That's awesome! There's someone in our town who runs a similar service - and the soup is phenomenal, especially in winter.

Check out this great new CSA we have available in the Mad River Valley of Vermont. Jordan Mitchnick is a young new farmer who is making soups and sauces and delivering them as a weekly CSA. She makes great stuff!

What a great post! My area has mixed CSAs- some farms combine and you buy a set cost amount each week, but of whatever you want- produce, dairy, meat, etc. I just found out about it- can't wait to join next year. Thanks for sharing all the different choices that can be out there for us to enjoy.

Wow! I had no idea that there were so many different kinds of CSA's out there. Especially the wine and bread CSA's! I do really like the idea of supporting local wineries. :)

Blessings!

It was through my veggie-box CSA that I found my meat and raw dairy CSA suppliers. They pointed me toward my egg and honey CSAs. I haven't found a bread, fresh flower or wine CSA yet, but those products are often available at my weekly farmer's market.

If you get involved in a meat CSA, be sure to check for soaps and bath products. It's a great way for meat producers to use the tallow and lard as a sideline. My meat producer snuck a bar of the most lovely lavender soap in my last CSA box and it lasted nearly a month!

This is such a great post! So many great ideas here, and so well put. I have been reluctant to join any more CSAs until I get a better sense of the produce we're getting this year, but meat and cheese are next on my list.

Check out Lee’s last post: What’s in the Box? This Week’s Farmshare Bounty.
